Silver is a cool grey with a refined shimmer. Our silver rugs are mainly modern designs with viscose or silk, plus Oriental rugs such as Nain with silky tendrils.

Silver brings light and sheen into a room. Unlike a matt grey, a silver rug changes its effect depending on the light and the viewing angle: sometimes it looks bright and shimmering, sometimes calm and muted. This liveliness makes silver an elegant choice for modern living rooms, bedrooms and dressing rooms.
In the living room, a silver rug harmonises with sofas in white, grey or velvet blue and with furniture in glass, chrome or light wood. Sizes such as 170 x 240 cm and 150 x 200 cm fit under compact seating groups, and 200 x 300 cm under larger ones. If you want a glamorous look, combine silver with mirrors and crystal lamps. Wood, linen and matt ceramics create a calmer effect by balancing the sheen.
More than one in five silver rugs is a runner, many of them up to two metres long. In the hallway, the sheen reflects the light and makes narrow, dark spaces appear brighter. The hallway rugs offer a large selection of runners.
Almost three quarters of our silver rugs are modern designs, plus woven rugs with Oriental patterns and individual hand-knotted Oriental rugs. More than half come from India, just under a third from Persia. Hand-woven, hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs are represented in roughly equal numbers.
Designer rugs with abstract patterns and plain surfaces that shine thanks to viscose or silk make up the largest share. Rugs with a vintage look show classic patterns in washed-out, silvery tones, combining tradition with modern living.
The Oriental rugs include Nain rugs whose silver-grey ground is decorated with fine silk tendrils. Simple Gabbeh rugs from India, by contrast, show silver-grey as a calm, slightly shaded surface. If you are looking for a particularly high sheen, you will find more designs under Silk Rugs.
A good two thirds of the silver rugs are rectangular, and more than a fifth are runners. There are also some oval and round designs. Common sizes are 170 x 240 cm, 150 x 200 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 70 x 140 cm. Oval rugs work well under oval dining tables or in front of a sofa with rounded shapes.
The silvery sheen usually comes from viscose or silk, which reflect the light more strongly than wool. Viscose is a fibre made from cellulose, silk a natural product. Both give the rug a lively play of colour depending on the viewing angle.
Viscose is more sensitive to moisture than wool. Stains should therefore be treated dry or only slightly damp wherever possible. A rug with viscose is well placed in rooms with little foot traffic, such as the bedroom or living room.
Silver is light and shiny, anthracite dark and matt. For a stronger contrast, it is worth looking at the anthracite rugs; you will find matt, neutral tones among the light grey rugs.
