How are our rugs made?
The story of Morgenland Rugs begins in the 20th century in Afghanistan. Originally founded as "Madjidian Rugs" in Kabul, the family business grew rapidly and developed into a wholesale operation with up to 200 knotters. Initially specialising in fine Afghan silk rugs, the range was later expanded to include wool rugs from various regions.
The civil war led to the closure of the business, but in 1998 the family made a fresh start in Germany. Nader Madjidian resumed his earlier work. In 2007, the family founded a new rug company in Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district. Under the leadership of Kabir Madjidian, the eldest son, the company began by selling on eBay. Rugs were initially sourced locally, before sourcing was extended to countries such as Persia and India. Eventually, the entire production chain was taken over and the first in-house production facility was launched in India. Today, Morgenland Rugs is an established producer and retailer with its own online shop. With warehouse space in the Speicherstadt and a showroom in Hamburg, the company has continued to grow.

Kabir Madjidian
As the eldest son, Kabir Madjidian came into contact with the rug trade at an early age, developing the maturity needed to take on the role of business owner by the age of 18. After initial challenges, he grew into a responsible and respected leader. Today, Kabir Madjidian plays a central role in the company's sustainable growth. Customer satisfaction is his greatest motivation. With heart and dedication, he strives to delight every single customer.
Nader Madjidian
As the head of the family, Nader Madjidian assumed responsibility for his family's wellbeing from an early age. At a young age, he decided to follow his passion for rugs – a calling he remains convinced he has found to this day. For him, rugs are an expression of oriental lifestyle, culture and tradition. His motivation has always been to find the right rug for every customer and, in doing so, to bring a special touch to every home.
