Sea Blue Rugs

Sea blue is a fresh, strong blue that recalls water and the coast. Our sea blue rugs combine Oriental rugs such as Ziegler with modern Gabbeh and Loribaft designs.

Sea blue rugs in the room

Sea blue brings colour into a room without becoming loud. The shade sits between light blue and dark blue and, depending on the light, looks fresh or deep. In light, natural interiors with linen, rattan and pale wood, it quickly creates a summery, relaxed impression. In rooms with dark parquet, on the other hand, the blue stands out clearly from the floor and becomes an eye-catcher.

In the living and dining area

A sea blue rug under the dining table or seating group sets a clear focal point. Sizes such as 170 x 240 cm or 200 x 300 cm cover most seating groups, and for large rooms there is also 250 x 350 cm. You will find inspiration among our living room rugs.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, sea blue feels invigorating and calm at the same time, especially with white linen and light walls. A rug in 120 x 180 cm fits well alongside the bed. We show more designs under Bedroom Rugs.

Which sea blue rugs does Morgenland offer?

Almost all our sea blue rugs are hand-knotted from virgin wool. Just under half come from Afghanistan, just under a third from Persia and the rest from India and Pakistan. Classic Oriental patterns are somewhat more common than modern designs.

Ziegler, Nain and Kazak

Among the classic designs, Ziegler rugs lead with their generous tendrils, joined by individual Nain and Kazak rugs. Here sea blue often forms the ground colour, combined with light tones in the pattern. This keeps the rug lively without looking restless, and it can also be paired with patterned cushions or curtains.

Gabbeh, Loribaft and Berber style

Things become more modern with Gabbeh rugs from Persia and Loribaft rugs. They show calm surfaces, simple motifs or softly graded fields of colour in which the blue looks lighter or darker depending on the light. This lively colour gradient comes from differently dyed batches of wool and is part of the character of these rugs. There are also designs in Berber style, with graphic lines on a light or blue ground.

Sizes and shapes

Nine out of ten sea blue rugs are rectangular. Besides the usual sizes, there are some round rugs and runners. Sizes such as 100 x 150 cm suit entrance halls and small rooms, while large sizes from 250 x 300 cm suit open-plan living areas, linking several groups of furniture together.

Which colours go with sea blue?

  • Sand and natural tones for a maritime look.
  • White for maximum freshness.
  • Coral and terracotta as a warm contrast.
  • Grey and anthracite for a modern, calm effect.
  • Brass and rattan as natural accents.

Frequently asked questions about sea blue rugs

How does sea blue differ from petrol blue?

Sea blue is a clear, fresh blue. Petrol blue contains more green and looks darker and more muted. If you are torn between the two, take a look at the petrol blue rugs.

Does a sea blue rug go with a grey sofa?

Very well. Grey takes the severity out of the blue, and the blue brings colour into the grey. A design with light patterns links the two tones even further.

What is a Loribaft rug?

Loribaft rugs come from the tradition of the Lurs in south-west Persia. They resemble the Gabbeh but are more finely knotted, which makes them look calmer and denser. Typical features are clear surfaces, narrow borders and a few deliberately placed motifs.

You will find more shades of blue under Blue Rugs, and deeper variants among the dark blue rugs.
