Mustard yellow rugs in the room

Mustard yellow is a yellow with character. It is less garish than a clear lemon yellow and therefore looks grown-up, warm and modern. A mustard yellow rug brings colour and energy into rooms with a lot of grey, white or wood and recalls the interior style of the sixties and seventies.

In the living room

In the living room, a mustard yellow rug adds a lively accent to sofas in grey, anthracite or petrol. Sizes such as 170 x 240 cm or 200 x 250 cm suit most seating groups. If you want to take the look further, combine retro-style wooden furniture with cushions in rust or olive green. You will find further ideas for the living area under Living Room Rugs.

In the nursery

A good one in five mustard yellow rugs is a children’s rug with cheerful motifs. The warm colour lifts the mood and goes with furniture in white, wood and pastel shades. We show a larger selection under Children’s Rugs, and design ideas among the nursery rugs.

Which mustard yellow rugs does Morgenland offer?

A good three quarters of our mustard yellow rugs are modern designs. A good half come from India, plus rugs from Persia and Afghanistan. A good two fifths are hand-woven, a third hand-knotted and the rest hand-tufted. Nearly all are made of virgin wool. The range is rounded off by a few Oriental rugs from Persia and Afghanistan.

Modern kilims

Modern kilims make up the largest share. They are flat-woven, light and robust and often show mustard yellow in minimalist patterns with clear lines and fields. Kilims work well under chairs and doors and are also suitable for rooms with a lot of movement.

Classic rugs

The classic designs include individual Ghom rugs from central Persia, known for their fine knotting, as well as Loribaft, Farahan and Baluch rugs. In these, mustard yellow usually appears as the ground colour or in medallions, surrounded by red, blue and cream. In this way, these rugs combine the warm colour with the depth of traditional patterns.

Sizes and shapes

A good three quarters of the mustard yellow rugs are rectangular, and about one in ten each is round or a runner. Round rugs are available, for example, with a diameter of 100 cm, ideal for reading corners or nurseries. Common rectangular sizes are 170 x 240 cm, 80 x 120 cm, 60 x 90 cm and 120 x 180 cm. Small sizes are a good way to try out the colour cautiously at first, for example in front of an armchair or by the bed.

Which colours go with mustard yellow?

  • Grey and anthracite as a modern, calm base.
  • Petrol and dark blue for a strong contrast.
  • Olive green and rust for a warm retro look.
  • White and cream, which make the yellow look fresh.
  • Teak and walnut as matching woods.

Frequently asked questions about mustard yellow rugs

Is mustard yellow a trend colour?

Mustard yellow has kept reappearing in interiors and fashion for decades. Thanks to its muted, earthy character, it looks less short-lived than garish yellows and can be combined with changing furniture for a long time.

Does mustard yellow go with a grey sofa?

Very well, this is one of the most popular combinations. Grey calms the warm yellow, and mustard yellow brings life to a grey interior. A cushion or throw in mustard yellow on the sofa links the two elements.

Are there warmer shades of yellow?

Yes. You will find warmer, deeper tones among the gold rugs.

You will find the full range of yellow tones under Yellow Rugs.
