Indo Keshan rugs are produced in the knotting centres of northern India and follow the traditional patterns of the Persian Kashan rugs. This Indian interpretation of the classic Persian models developed into an art form of its own in the 20th century. The city of Kashan in central Persia was famous for centuries for its silk and wool rugs, whose designs are now executed in India with local materials and techniques.

The Indian knotters have taken over the traditional patterns of the original Kashan rugs and developed their own signature in the process.
