White rugs in the oriental style

Oriental rugs with a white ground are rare. In our range you will find them mainly among finely knotted Nain rugs, whose light fields make the pattern look light and clear. A white oriental rug thus combines the ornamentation of the Orient with the clarity of a modern room. This page shows only oriental rugs in white and natural white; you will find modern white rugs in our White Rugs collection.

Nain rugs in 6La, 9La and 12La

Most of the white oriental rugs are Nain rugs, mainly from Persia. The designation La indicates the fineness of the knotting: 6La is the finest, 9La the medium and 12La the coarser quality. Some of the white Nain rugs are exceptionally finely knotted, with up to around one million knots per square metre. You will also find some Ziegler rugs with a light ground.

Kurk wool and fine knotting

All white oriental rugs in our range are hand-knotted, most of them from Kurk wool. This wool from the shoulder and neck area of the sheep is particularly soft and gives the light pile a fine sheen.

Sizes

Our white oriental rugs are available as rectangular rugs up to 250 x 350 cm, as oriental runners and in a few square sizes. As the selection is small and most are one-of-a-kind pieces, each size is often available only once.

Furnishing with a white oriental rug

A white oriental rug suits bright, calm rooms – with oak, linen, lime plaster and furniture in grey or black. It brings pattern into a minimalist room without weighing it down, and makes dark floors such as walnut or smoked oak look especially refined.

Frequently asked questions about white oriental rugs

Is a white oriental rug practical for everyday life?

A light rug shows dirt faster. However, the dense knotting and the wool are hard-wearing; blot stains immediately and vacuum the rug regularly. For a thorough clean, we offer professional rug cleaning.

What is the difference between white and natural white?

White is a pure, cool tone. Natural white is the warm, slightly yellowish white of wool and therefore looks softer. In the filter you can select the two tones separately.
