Antique rugs are unique masterpieces, distinguished by their exquisite designs and craftsmanship. They are a true feast for the eyes, refining every room with a touch of elegance and sophistication.
These artful rugs are more than just a decorative object – they are a genuine investment that outlasts generations and offers a unique experience. With their incomparable beauty and unique charm, antique rugs can create an atmosphere that carries over to every room and offers an unforgettable experience.
Immerse yourself in the world of oriental rugs and discover the artistic treasures of the Orient. Every pattern is like a painting and unique in itself. The pattern is the most important feature of an oriental rug: it unites the tradition of the province where it was knotted with the passion of the weaver. An old rug from Morgenland thus embodies the soul of the weaver and the norms and values of the province. A weaver spends up to four years on a single piece. The weavers receive a design template typical of the province, which they follow. This template is usually used only once and then varied. In the countryside, by contrast, the nomads knot their nomadic rugs without a template, yet the designs of neighbouring villages resemble each other. In these cases, the rugs are similar in colour and pattern.
Conventional old oriental rugs are hand-knotted and come mainly from the ancient Orient. This is why these rugs are often also called Persian rugs.
Classic antique rugs are usually made from natural fibres. Natural fibres are divided into plant and animal fibres. In the vast majority of cases, new wool is used, supplied from nearby production sites. As a result, all stakeholders involved in the region benefit. The new wool used is odour-neutral and has a high lanolin content.
This makes the rugs hard-wearing and durable. The natural fibres used ensure a balanced indoor climate and can also be combined with underfloor heating. Besides new wool, other natural yarns such as cork wool, cotton or silk are used.
An antique Persian rug is rich in colours and nuances. Colourful rugs in orange, red or green fit into almost any interior in terms of colour, whether classic and oriental or modern and understated.
Handmade rugs need to be exposed to the sun for more than a month in order to fade sufficiently. This time is usually not observed in the supply chain, which is why it is no wonder that the rugs fade in your home. To ensure even fading, the rug should be turned every two years. In individual cases, the rug therefore only reaches its final colour after ten years.
Handmade old rugs come in all conventional shapes. Rectangular rugs are the most common. Two variants of rectangular rugs are square rugs and long, narrow rugs, the so-called “runners”. Round rugs and oval rugs, on the other hand, are much rarer.
The patterns reveal the precise workmanship of the rug weavers. The careful handwork and the age of these rugs are what make an antique oriental rug so valuable. Every pattern is unique in itself, and yet there are relationships within a rug family. With the variety of their colours and patterns, antique oriental rugs make plain, modern interiors appear livelier and thus create a cosier atmosphere.
Antique oriental rugs look good in any room. Their timeless oriental design outlasts the trends of every era. They can be laid in almost any room, whether in a bright living room or a cosy bedroom. Even stains do not bother them: the fantastic patterns make smaller stains seem invisible. Unlike coarse high-pile rugs, such as shaggy rugs, antique oriental rugs are very fine and short-piled. This means these rugs can also be hung on your own walls as valuable pieces.
Bring oriental culture into your home and appreciate the creativity and years of diligence of the weavers.
Old Persian rugs are treasures from the ancient Orient. These rugs have survived many years and have not lost their lustre over time. With regular care and cleaning, they can be preserved for many more years. In addition, they are relatively stable in price and lose little value.
Each of our rugs undergoes a careful quality inspection and appraisal. Only after passing this inspection are our rugs handed over to the sales department. You can buy your antique rug with peace of mind and return it within 31 days if you are not satisfied.
Antique rugs stand for exquisite art and a respected cultural heritage. Their high-quality materials and elaborate handwork make antique rugs popular centrepieces whose value often increases over generations with proper care.
Although definitions vary, rugs that are over 80 years old and were hand-woven from natural dyes and fibres such as wool and silk are generally considered antique. Their age contributes to handmade imperfections that add to the beauty of antique rugs.
Genuine antique rugs are between 80 and several hundred years old. Rich patinas and various age-related signs of use give these works of art, which have survived decades of use thanks to their masterful construction, character without detracting from them.
