A wide runner

With a width of one metre and a length of two metres, this format counts as a runner, and most pieces on this page are classified as such; a few are considered rectangular rugs. The selection ranges from around 90 to 109 cm in width, with lengths between 190 and 215 cm. Compared with a narrow runner, the extra width brings more surface to hallways, bedrooms and kitchens. You will find runners in all sizes under runners.

Hand-knotted oriental runners

Most of them are knotted by hand. The largest group is formed by Baluch, nomadic and village rugs from the borderland between Iran and Afghanistan, mostly in red and dark red. They are joined by Bidjar, Tabriz in 50 Raj, Hamadan, Gabbeh with a thick pile, and Akhche and Khal-Mohammadi rugs from Afghanistan. Kilims from Maimene and Fars complete the selection. Some of the runners are not new but around 25 to 35 years old. The oriental runners page shows more hand-knotted runners.

Machine-woven rugs

A considerable share of the runners in 100 x 200 cm are machine-woven rugs. They are woven by machine, made mainly of acrylic, some of polyester, and usually have an all-over pattern, some in an oriental style. They are not hand-knotted, but according to the product information they are washable and also suitable for outdoor use. The construction of each runner is stated with every piece. The washable rugs page shows more easy-care models.

Colours and use

Shades of red and dark red predominate, alongside beige, dark blue, black and multicoloured runners. In the hallway, some floor should remain visible on the left and right: a runner 100 cm wide fits well in hallways from about 1.30 m wide. Beside the bed, it accompanies a whole side of the bed; in the kitchen, the area in front of the worktop. Suitable pages are hallway rugs and kitchen rugs.

Frequently asked questions about runners in 100 x 200 cm

How can I recognise a hand-knotted runner?

Turn it over: on the back of a hand-knotted runner, every knot can be seen individually, with small irregularities in the grid. A machine-woven runner, by contrast, has a completely uniform back.

How do I wash a machine-woven rug?

The care instructions are on the product page of the respective model. Hand-knotted runners, on the other hand, do not belong in the washing machine; for them there is our rug cleaning service.

Can I use a machine-woven rug outdoors?

Yes, according to the product information, the machine-woven rugs in this selection are also suitable for outdoor use, for example on a terrace or balcony. Hand-knotted wool runners, on the other hand, belong indoors.
