Oval oriental rugs are rare. Here you will find a small selection of hand-knotted rugs from Persia, mainly Tabriz and Bidjar, in sizes around 120 x 180 cm.

A rare shape among oriental rugs

Almost all the oriental rugs in our range are rectangular or runners. Oval pieces are the exception, and this selection is correspondingly small: it includes only a few hand-knotted rugs in the oriental style. The modern designs under Oval Rugs offer more choice in an oval shape; round rugs have a similarly soft outline.

Tabriz and Bidjar from Persia

The oval oriental rugs in our range are hand-knotted and come from Persia. Tabriz rugs in 50 Raj are very finely knotted, here with a medallion; Bidjar rugs look bolder and more densely patterned. The pile is made of Kurk wool, that is, wool from the shoulder and neck area of the sheep, with silk knotted into some pieces. The colours range from red and rust to black.

Size and use

The pieces measure around 120 x 180 cm; the exact dimensions are given for each rug. In this size, an oval oriental rug fits in front of the bed, in the entrance hall or in front of an armchair. The soft outline takes the severity out of a narrow room and makes walkways around furniture feel more open.

Frequently asked questions about oval oriental rugs

Why are there so few oval oriental rugs?

Oriental rugs are traditionally knotted mostly in a rectangular shape; oval shapes are rare. That is why the selection is small, and every piece is unique.

Does an oval rug of around 120 x 180 cm fit under a dining table?

This size is too small for a dining table with chairs. It is better suited to bedrooms, entrance halls and hallways, or as an accent in a reading corner.
