Light grey rugs in the room

Light grey is one of the most popular colours for modern interiors. The shade is neutral without feeling cold and lets furniture, pictures and plants stand out clearly. A light grey rug is particularly suitable for rooms with white walls, light wood or concrete, where it creates a soft, calm surface. At the same time, light grey is less delicate than white and shows everyday marks less clearly.

In the living room

In the living room, a light grey rug forms an elegant base for sofas in white, anthracite, cognac or petrol. Sizes such as 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm bring the seating group together, and 250 x 300 cm suits large rooms. If you prefer a homelier feel, combine the rug with cushions and throws in warm tones. Our living room rugs show further interior ideas.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, light grey creates a relaxed, tidy atmosphere. With white bed linen and wood in oak or ash, the result is a clear, Scandinavian-style room. Small sizes such as 60 x 90 cm work as bedside rugs, larger ones under the bed. You will find suitable rugs for this room among the bedroom rugs.

Which light grey rugs does Morgenland offer?

Two thirds of our light grey rugs are modern rugs, and just under a third show classic Oriental patterns. More than a third come from Afghanistan, a third from India and a quarter from Persia. Three in five are hand-knotted, just under a third are hand-woven, and the rest are woven or hand-tufted.

Berber style and wool rugs

Berber-style rugs with graphic lines, diamonds and grids on a light ground are well represented, as are simple wool rugs with a fine texture. Abstract patterns are the most common in this shade, followed by plain designs. They suit pared-back, modern rooms particularly well.

Kilims and designer rugs

Flat-woven kilims with geometric patterns in grey, white and black come from Maimana in northern Afghanistan. They are light and robust and work well under furniture. Designer rugs complete the selection with abstract shapes and modern colour gradients. Among the Oriental rugs are individual Nain rugs in which light grey forms the ground for fine tendrils.

Sizes and shapes

Four in five light grey rugs are rectangular. The high proportion of square rugs is striking: more than one in ten is square, many of them in small sizes with sides of up to 80 cm. There are also some runners and the odd round design.

Which colours go with light grey?

  • White and black for a clear, graphic look.
  • Mustard yellow and ochre for a warm, modern accent.
  • Pink and dusky pink for a soft, friendly combination.
  • Petrol and emerald as strong contrasts.
  • Oak and walnut, which balance the coolness of the grey.

Frequently asked questions about light grey rugs

Does a light grey rug look cold?

It depends on what surrounds it. With wood, leather and warm textiles, light grey looks friendly and homely. With glass, steel and white, on the other hand, it creates a cool, modern impression. A rug in a warm grey with a lively texture is the middle way.

What are Maimana kilims?

Maimana is a town in northern Afghanistan known for its flat-woven kilims. Typical features are geometric patterns and a dense, strong weave that makes the rugs hard-wearing.

Light grey or silver?

Light grey is neutral and matt, while silver has a cooler tone and often a slight sheen from viscose or silk. You will find shiny variants among the silver rugs, and darker shades of grey among the dark grey rugs.
