Dark beige rugs in the room

Dark beige is one of the most versatile rug colours. The shade is strong enough to be visible on a light floor and restrained enough to adapt to any interior. It looks grounded and natural and recalls sand, linen and undyed wool. That is why dark beige is a good choice for anyone looking for a rug for many years that will also go along with a change of furniture.

In the dining room

Under the dining table, dark beige is especially practical: the colour forgives crumbs and small stains and can be combined with tables in oak, walnut or glass. It is important that the rug extends about 60 centimetres beyond the table on all sides so that the chairs stand securely. You will find suitable sizes under Dining Room Rugs.

In the hallway

A good one in seven dark beige rugs is a runner. In the hallway, the calm shade links the entrance area with the living spaces and combines equally well with wood, stone and tiles. You will find more designs among the hallway rugs.

Which dark beige rugs does Morgenland offer?

Almost all our dark beige rugs are hand-knotted, and some are hand-woven. More than half come from Persia, just under a quarter from Afghanistan and the rest mainly from India and Pakistan. Four in five rugs show classic Oriental patterns, and one in five has a modern design.

Persian classics

The Persian rugs include Tabriz rugs with 50 Raj, Bidjar and Ilam, often with a medallion surrounded by dark beige areas. Overall, around two in five rugs feature a medallion, and just under a third an all-over field. Many pieces combine virgin wool with fine silk outlines, which give the warm ground tone a slight shimmer.

Gabbeh, Ariana and kilim

Persian Gabbeh rugs with plenty of calm surface and a few, often naive motifs look more modern. From Afghanistan come Ariana rugs with muted, natural-looking colours and flat-woven kilims with geometric patterns. We show more rugs from Afghanistan under Afghan Rugs.

Sizes and shapes

Four in five dark beige rugs are rectangular, and the rest are mostly runners, plus a few square designs. Particularly common are 150 x 200 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 170 x 240 cm, and for large rooms also 250 x 350 cm. Small sizes such as 60 x 90 cm fit in front of a chest of drawers, a coat rack or a bed.

Which colours go with dark beige?

  • White and cream for a light, friendly contrast.
  • Sage green and moss for an earthy, natural effect.
  • Terracotta and rust as warm accents.
  • Anthracite and black for a modern, graphic look.
  • Natural wood, rattan and linen as matching materials.

Frequently asked questions about dark beige rugs

Does dark beige look boring?

Not if the pattern and material are right. A dark beige Persian rug with a fine medallion or a Gabbeh with lively colour variations has plenty of character. The calm colour makes furniture, pictures and plants stand out more.

What is an Ariana rug?

Ariana rugs are knotted in Afghanistan and take up classic patterns in muted, often natural-looking colours. They combine traditional designs with a restrained colour palette that suits modern rooms well.

Dark beige or sand?

Dark beige is earthier and has more brown, while sand is lighter and more yellowish. You will find lighter, sunnier tones among the sand-coloured rugs, and very light ones among the light beige rugs.

We show all shades of beige together under Beige Rugs.
