Cream rugs in the home

A cream rug makes a room bright without feeling cold. Unlike pure white, cream has a slight yellow or pink tone that makes wood, fabrics and skin look warm. In Oriental rugs, cream is often the ground colour on which fine tendrils and medallions in blue, rosé or light brown are set. This keeps the overall impression light, while the pattern gives the rug depth.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, cream creates a calm, friendly mood. With white bed linen, linen fabrics and light wood, the result is a harmonious, almost tone-on-tone look. In the living room

In the living room, a cream Persian rug looks elegant and timeless, especially with sofas in grey, taupe or dark blue. Which cream rugs does Morgenland offer?

Almost all our cream rugs are hand-knotted, and the great majority are Persian rugs. A few come from India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. A good one in ten has a modern design, while the rest show classic Oriental patterns. The modern designs are mainly Persian Gabbeh rugs, simple wool rugs and children’s rugs, often plain, abstract or with a narrow border.

Nain and Tabriz

Around a quarter of the designs are Nain rugs. They are among the finest Persian rugs and often combine cream with blue; the designation 6la or 9la describes the fineness of the knotting, and 6la is the finer. Tabriz rugs with 50 Raj bring elegant, urban medallions. You will also find Moud and Mashhad rugs with calmer, softer patterns.

Silk as an accent

A strikingly large number of cream rugs contain silk. It is mostly used for outlines, blossoms and tendrils and makes the pattern shimmer depending on the viewing angle. Sizes and shapes

A good three quarters of the cream rugs are rectangular, and almost a fifth are runners. Common sizes are 150 x 200 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 100 x 150 cm, and for small spaces also 80 x 120 cm and 60 x 90 cm. You will also find the odd round and square design.

Which colours go with cream?

• Dark blue and indigo, which pick up the pattern of many Nain rugs.
• Taupe and warm grey for a calm, elegant interior.
• Dusky pink and powder pink for a soft, romantic effect.
• Cognac and caramel as warm accents in leather and wood.
• Gold and brass, which emphasise the fine sheen of the silk.

Frequently asked questions about cream rugs

Is a cream rug delicate?

Light rugs show stains sooner than dark ones. On finely patterned Persian rugs this is less noticeable, because the pattern breaks up the surface. For a dining area with children, a design with a dense, colourful pattern is more practical than a large, calm expanse of cream.

Cream, beige or off-white?

Cream is a warm, slightly yellowish white. Beige has more brown and looks earthier, while off-white is cooler and recalls undyed wool. You will find lighter shades of beige among the light beige rugs and natural, undyed tones among the natural-coloured rugs.

Does a cream Persian rug go with a light floor?

Yes. On light wood or stone, it creates a soft, elegant transition. So that the rug does not disappear, the pattern should have enough contrast, for example through blue or rosé tendrils.
