Traditionally hand-knotted rugs are still considered the epitome of the highest quality among rug types. Depending on the type of knot, they are characterised by exceptional durability and resilience – often lasting for several generations. The fineness of the knotting has a significant influence on the representation of ornaments and patterns: the denser the knotting, the more detailed the design. However, this precision requires not only a great deal of time, but also a high degree of craftsmanship and experience. The knot density is therefore considered an important indicator of a rug's value. Nevertheless, a high knot density does not automatically mean better quality – even rugs with a coarser structure can be excellently crafted.
