Modern Rug Runners

Modern Rug Runners – Style and Practicality for Every Narrow Space

Modern rug runners are one of the most functional and underappreciated elements in interior design. In hallways, corridors, kitchens and staircases, their elongated format solves a problem that no other rug shape can: how to bring warmth, colour and comfort to a narrow space without overwhelming it. A well-chosen runner transforms a utilitarian corridor into a considered part of the home’s design language.

Contemporary runner designs have moved far beyond the traditional striped hallway rug. Today’s options span abstract prints, geometric patterns, plain textured weaves and even hand-tufted wool constructions – all in the slim proportions that make runners so practical. Whether your interior is Scandinavian-minimal, mid-century modern or boldly eclectic, there is a modern runner to complement it.

Sizing Guide

The ideal runner width is determined by the width of the space: for corridors up to 120 cm wide, a 60 cm runner is appropriate; for wider hallways from 150 cm, 80 cm works best. Leave 15–20 cm of floor visible on each side. For length, the runner should fill most of the corridor, with 10–15 cm clearance at each end. Always use a non-slip underlay – runners are particularly prone to slipping due to their narrow format.
