Light brown brings warmth into a room while staying light and friendly. Most of our light brown rugs are hand-knotted Oriental rugs, many from Tabriz, plus modern Gabbeh rugs.

Light brown is the colour of nutshells, hazel wood and milky coffee. It looks warm and grounded without being heavy and effortlessly links light and dark furniture. A light brown rug is therefore a safe choice for rooms where many wood tones, leather or natural fabrics come together.
In the living room, light brown goes with sofas in cream, grey or dark green. Large sizes such as 250 x 350 cm or 250 x 300 cm also take in a sprawling seating group and give the room a calm, warm floor. For open-plan layouts with dining and living areas, two coordinated rugs are worthwhile. Our living room rugs show more examples.
A special feature of this shade: almost one in ten light brown rugs is square, for example 200 x 200 cm. Such sizes suit square rooms, the space under round dining tables or seating groups arranged around a central coffee table.
Most of our light brown rugs are hand-knotted, and a good one in ten is hand-woven. A good two thirds are Persian rugs, alongside pieces from Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Around four in five show classic Oriental patterns, and one in five has a modern design.
Around a third of the light brown rugs are Tabriz rugs from north-west Persia. They come in different grades of fineness, indicated by the Raj number: the higher the number, the denser the knotting, for example 40 or 50 Raj. Typical features are elegant medallions, fine floral tendrils and a balanced colour scheme in which light brown comes together with cream, rosé and blue.
Flat-woven kilims from Fars province bring geometric patterns and a light, robust construction. Persian Gabbeh rugs, by contrast, show light brown as a calm, lively shaded surface with few motifs. Both suit modern, natural interiors well.
A good four in five light brown rugs are rectangular, plus the square designs and a few runners. Common sizes are 150 x 200 cm, 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm, as well as the large sizes from 250 x 300 cm. Round rugs are rare. If you are looking for a rug for an open-plan living and dining area, you will find a particularly large number of large sizes here.
Raj is a measure of knot density commonly used in Tabriz. A rug with 50 Raj is more finely knotted than one with 40 Raj and shows the pattern in correspondingly more detail. Both qualities are suitable for everyday use.
Yes, especially if the rug and floor differ somewhat in tone. A rug with patterns in cream or blue stands out well against oak, while a plain Gabbeh looks deliberately calm and natural.
Yes. You will find deeper tones among the dark brown rugs and golden nuances among the camel rugs.
