Dark green is a colour with depth. It recalls fir forests, ivy and dark moss and creates a sheltered, refined atmosphere. A dark green rug goes with brass, velvet and dark wood as well as with light, Scandinavian furniture, against which it sets a strong contrast.
In the living room, a dark green rug forms a calm, rich base for sofas in cream, cognac or rosé. Sizes such as 150 x 200 cm, 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm suit small and large seating groups. Our living room rugs show examples of seating groups in many colours.
In the bedroom, dark green feels calming and sheltering, especially with white bed linen and brass lamps. In a study, the colour suits bookshelves and wooden desks and creates a focused, calm mood. Green plants and brass lamps round off this look, while curtains in cream keep it light.
A good two thirds of our dark green rugs are modern designs, and just under a third show classic patterns. A good two fifths come from Persia, a good quarter from India and a quarter from Afghanistan. A little more than half are hand-knotted, and just under two fifths are hand-woven. The classic patterns are found mainly on Oriental rugs such as Nain, Kazak and Ziegler.
Gabbeh rugs make up the largest share, both Persian originals and Indian designs that are knotted or made on the loom. They show dark green as a calm, lively shaded surface with few motifs. Many dark green rugs are completely plain; you will find more simple designs under Plain Rugs.
Flat-woven kilims with geometric patterns come from Maimana in northern Afghanistan. They are joined by rugs with nomadic motifs, individual Loribaft rugs and some children’s rugs that combine dark green with cheerful motifs.
Three quarters of the dark green rugs are rectangular, a good one in six is a runner, and there are a few round and square designs. Common sizes are 150 x 200 cm, 100 x 150 cm, 120 x 180 cm and 200 x 300 cm. Runners in dark green are particularly suitable for hallways with a light floor, on which the rich colour shows to good effect.
Yes, if the walls and furniture are light. A dark green rug then gives a small room a clear centre without overwhelming it. On dark floors, the size should not be chosen too large.
With hand-knotted rugs, each knot is tied individually by hand, which results in a dense, soft surface. Hand-woven rugs are made on a loom, are flatter and lighter and work well under furniture. You will find both types of construction in dark green.
Yes. The olive green rugs show classic patterns in muted green, and the light green rugs fresh, light tones.
